When Your Life is Out of Balance: What Next?

It’s hard to keep your life balanced when there is so much going on. Whether you’ve just had a baby or you’re juggling work and family responsibilities, it can be tough to maintain the balance in your life that brings happiness and fulfilment.

As you progress in life, responsibilities and the thirst to achieve more can overcrowd your judgment and throw your life out of balance. However, understand that as much as you need to make money, you should take care of your health and family too. How do you bring back balance and fulfilment in your life?

Start small

Reduce the amount of time you spend on social media and other non-essential websites. The more time you spend scrolling through Facebook, the less time you have for other activities that are important to your life.

Spend a few minutes on social media and then close the tab or turn off your phone. You can always go back later if something is urgent. On the same note, don’t let work take up the whole day. Decide how much time you’ll spend at your desk, take breaks in between, then switch off to more entertaining activities.

Spend Time Entertaining Yourself

Take some time for yourself every day to do something that makes you happy, like reading a book or going for a walk. Watch rugby or once in a while attend a sports event with friends or family. Ask your family what they would want to do on the weekend, and when it’s within your means, indulge.

Don’t Ignore Stress

To some degree, stress is unavoidable. You’ll go through intense periods in your lives when you’ll need to work hard and face challenges head-on. When there’s too much going wrong for a prolonged period, or if you just have the feeling that your life has spun out of control, it may be time to make challenging lifestyle changes to get back on the right track.

First, identify and address any lifestyle factors that may be causing stress, such as a bad work environment or an unhealthy diet.

Secondly, get plenty of restful sleep each night by establishing a regular bedtime routine. Ensure you’ve set aside enough time for relaxing activities before bedtime.

Thirdly, take care of your body by getting at least 30 minutes of exercise each day and eat three balanced meals daily, including plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Lastly, don’t overwhelm yourself with responsibilities. Delegate where you can.

Find Ways to be Present with those Around You

Stop checking your phone when you’re talking to someone and make interactions more human. When you are at home, spend time with the kids, cook dinner together, or even sit and watch tv. Take time to know how their day was, and if possible, share one meal a day together.

Ensure you have plenty of time left over after work for family time, leisure activities, such as reading a book, and exercise.

It’s also fulfilling when you spend more quality time with friends and family who live nearby instead of relying on text messages and emails to communicate.

Also, focus on what is good in life rather than dwell on upsetting or disappointing things. You will be happier, at peace, and motivated to live a better life.
